MINOR changes have been made to the council’s new tree strategy, following feedback from residents, says Cllr Ian Shenton.
The executive member for environment, sport and leisure, shared details of the report ahead of a vote by councillors at a meeting of Wokingham Borough Council’s executive, held on Thursday, June 29.
“It’s a very thorough piece of work that has taken two years to produce to get to this stage,” he explained. “It will provide the unified platform for the whole of the borough’s approach to tree management.”
He continued: “I think there’s been too little regard paid to middle aged trees, not quite veteran trees, not quite ancient trees, but will be in due course. A lot of those have been treated as disposable when they shouldn’t be. Yes, we can plant things but it will take a long time for them to become substantial carbon sequestration trees.”
The vote was passed unanimously.
