INTERNET infrastructure provider CityFibre is celebrating having completed the latest milestone of its upgrade to the borough’s digital network.
Work to upgrade cables East of Wokingham town and North of Crowthorne means that homes and businesses in these areas can now access faster and more reliable broadband.
CityFibre started building the borough’s new £15m digital network in December 2022, making Wokingham one of a growing number of locations in the UK to benefit from a full fibre upgrade.
The UK’s largest independent provider of full fibre infrastructure, CityFibre is now progressing towards fulfilling the remainder of its roll out in Crowthorne and Northwest of Wokingham.
The project is expected to reach completion in 2025, giving local homes and businesses the chance to upgrade to full fibre and future-proof their connectivity for decades to come.
Neil Madle, CityFibre’s partnership manager for Wokingham, said: “We are not even one year into our build in Wokingham, so it’s extremely rewarding to see so many people benefit from our state-of-the-art full fibre network already.
“We appreciate that digital infrastructure investment of this scale can be disruptive for residents, and would like to thank everyone for their support and patience to date.
“Once complete, the network will future-proof Wokingham’s digital infrastructure for decades to come.
“The opportunity, when it comes to innovation and growth, is enormous.”
Full fibre networks use 100% fibre optics to carry data at light speed from the home to the point of connection.
CityFibre says this gives users speeds of up to 1,000 Mbps for upload and download, near limitless bandwidth, and reliable connectivity.
Locally, the rollout is being completed by CityFibre’s build partner, OCU Services Limited.
The team is working with Wokingham Borough Council to ensure any disruption is managed safely and efficiently..
CityFibre’s says its goal is to provide residents with a competitive choice of providers.
In Wokingham, customers can sign up to UK launch partner, Vodafone, on selected Vodafone Pro Broadband plans, as well as TalkTalk, Giganet and Zen, and other providers.
