THOUSANDS of people enjoyed a fun day at the Woodley Carnival.
More than 800 took part in the procession alone which, like other events, was on the theme of At The Movies.
Fears about the weather, with heavy rain the day before, were allayed and despite some strong winds, the stalls and events were packed.
Peter Jacobs, one of the organisers said: “In the afternoon, the winds picked up and a few gazebos were affected.
“There is such a great community spirit in Woodley and there were so many events on, the wind didn’t affect the day.
“The procession was as popular as ever and it was great to see how much effort people put into their floats and costumes.
“I would like to thanks Taylor Wimpey for supporting the smiley train which was very popular.
“There were so many wonderful local groups in the arena ensuring everyone really enjoyed themselves.”
The overall procession winner was Beechwood School while Woodley CofE Primary took first prize in the school’s
group, with Willow Bank Junior School collecting second prize.
The best biz award went to the Allied School of Dance and the charity award was collected by Woodley WI, who (un)dressed as the Calendar Girls in their movie-inspired float.
The event took place on Saturday, June 8.
