A MODERN take on the Christmas story was performed in Wokingham on Sunday, December 17.
The annual Living Advent Calendar took over Howard Palmer Gardens for the special show, devised, created and performed by local people.
Nicky Allpress’s Theatresmith company teamed up with youth drama company Platform YP and Churches Together in Wokingham to present the updated Nativity.
A specially erected square stage enabled the audience to stand all around the action.
Opening with the Angel Gabriel introducing the popular carol Joy To The World, the play then quickly introduced Mary, Joseph, shepherds, wise men and some midwives.
Despite heavy rain earlier in the afternoon, the open air performance went ahead as planned and saw hundreds turn out to enjoy the spectacle.
The Living Advent Calendar continues in Wokingham at 6pm on weeknights and 4pm on Saturday and Christmas Eve.
