MAYA is passionate about reusing and refilling.
Already this year her zero waste store, Maya’s Refillables, has refilled more than 3,100 containers of foods, cosmetics, and liquids.
The Wokingham store partners with SESI, an Oxford-based family-run social enterprise.
Maya said: “If we are asking our customers to refill with us, it’s really important to make sure that we also apply the same values to our suppliers.
“SESI provides laundry and household products that are gentle to the environment and to people’s skin because they’ve taken out any harsh unnecessary ingredients.”
“Also, and very importantly, they take back all their containers to wash and refill.
“Every time they come to deliver the next batch of liquids, they take away the empties.
“This means we can operate a completely circular system, constantly re-using containers, and without creating new plastics or generating CO2 emissions.”
To ensure their products are affordable, SESI partners only with independent retailers, like Maya.
“Buying eco friendly goods doesn’t have to be expensive,” she said.
“By going straight from the manufacturer to a direct stockist, like me, you can avoid higher prices at supermarkets, who all want their share of profits.
“By avoiding a commercial chain, we are able to make sure our customers pay the correct price for eco-friendly products, not pumped up ones.
“SESI products have been rated alongside supermarket brands by Ethical Consumer magazine, and are among their top products and best buys.”
