BOROUGH residents concerned that their home may be losing heat through draughts and insufficient insulation can now borrow a piece of equipment from the library to find out where heat is being lost.
A thermal imaging camera can be taken out on loan, like a book, from all Wokingham Borough libraries.
These cameras, which attach to Apple and Android phones, are used with a downloadable App to help residents spot heat loss around windows, doors, roofs and walls.
It’s a simple way to identify where insulation or draught-proofing could make a big difference.
Reducing heat loss can cut energy bills as well as people’s carbon footprint.
In the home it directly causes CO2 emissions because it forces residents’ heating systems to use more energy, and to run for longer periods to maintain a comfortable temperature.
Many heating systems run on fossil fuels which release CO2 when burned.
Checking where low-cost insulation will make a difference can lead to a reduction in bills.
Cameras can be borrowed from any borough library, and the opportunity is open to all Wokingham Borough residents.
They just need to have a Wokingham Borough library card, and can reserve the camera as they would reserve a book, online or in person.
For information and to reserve, people can call or drop into their local library.
