Network Rail carried out a temporary repair to the level crossing by Wokingham’s railway station, but it failed, causing it to get stuck this morning.
Earlier today, we reported that commuters had been affected by the barrier’s failure just after 8am. However, it turns out that an attempt to patch up the crossing had been made last night.
While Network Rail staff worked to get the barrier operational again, trains were delayed by around 10 minutes and drivers were being forced to make diversions along Molly Millars Lane or Oxford Road to get around Barkham Road.
Everything has been repaired and the barrier is now operating normally again.
A spokesperson for Network Rail said: “We apologise to anyone affected by minor delays this morning due to a level crossing failure in Wokingham.
“Temporary repairs were made to a cable last night, but the incident this morning was a failure of the barrier which required it to be replaced.
“The level crossing fully reopened at 9.30am this morning.”
