CROWDS will flock to Woodley on Saturday evening for the switching-on of its Christmas lights.
Performing the duties by the Centre Stage in the Crockhamwell Road shopping precinct will be the three winners of the annual poster contest for the Christmas extravaganza, which takes place on Sunday, December 3, again in the town centre.
The event starts at 4.30pm, and will see the Woodley Concert Band and the Sainsbury Singers perform carols, aided by soloist Charis Anne.
Seasonal refreshments will be served, courtesy of Woodley and Earley Lions and Just Around the Corner.
While the event is traditional, there is something new: the town centre has bought a fresh set of lights which will be lit for the first time when the poster contest winners push the button.
Woodley town centre manager Brian Fennelly said: “We are delighted once again to welcome the people of Woodley and further afield to what many feel is the highlight of our events calendar. This year will be particularly exciting as we have invested in brand new Christmas Lights throughout the town centre.
“On behalf of the Woodley Town Centre Partnership, I would like to thank Woodley Town Council for generously funding the new lights.”
