RAMS’ home support has been ‘very special’ according to director of rugby Seb Reynolds as the team gear up for their final home game of the season against Cinderford on Saturday.
In what promises to be a thrilling race to the line, Rams head the table on 104 points with two games remaining, Sale one back on 103 and Cambridge on 99 but with three matches left to play.
Meanwhile Cinderford inflicted the biggest defeat of the campaign on the leaders back in December, running out 37-17 victors at Dockham Road, but Reynolds hopes a bumper crowd can help roar Rams on in a crucial game.
He said: “In terms of all the leagues, National One has arguably the best finish – to have a three-way race for the title is incredibly exciting.
“It would be amazing to get a massive crowd for our last home game of the season against a very strong Cinderford side.
“They know exactly what they are, their DNA is engrained in them, and I’ve got so much respect for what they do – they’ll be tough to beat, and it would be great to have a huge crowd.
“The way the players have been supported by the fanbase is very special, and the way people are talking about the club, the group of players and the talent is deserved because of the effort the players put in.”
The average attendance at Old Bath Road has topped 750 for the first time this season.
back in the 2016/17 campaign it was just 196 – while some 100 supporters made the four-hour trip to Sale for the previous game.
Reynolds continued: concluded: “It’s a credit to the product the club is trying to create and the people coming down – each week I’m hearing a new story of someone whose come along.
“My wife knew someone who went to a match the other week because they’d heard about a club who were doing quite well, and it happened to be Rams.
“They didn’t know we were involved, so it’s someone who’s heard about the club and come down to support and it’s brilliant. I can’t thank the supporters enough and hopefully we see lots on Saturday.”
