A pacifist vigil in Wokingham on Remembrance Sunday was attended by 19 people.
They commemorated victims of past and present wars, of all nationalities, both civilian and military.
The vigil in Howard Palmer Gardens was organised by Wokingham members of peace groups including the Peace Pledge Union.
One of those attending said afterwards: “The vigil was a commitment to peace, challenging militarism and any attempt to glorify or celebrate war and violence.
“Mention was made that in modern warfare over 90% of those killed or injured are civilians, often women and children, and whose experiences are only to be imagined for future outcomes.”
Although largely a silent vigil, people brought along poems to accompany a moving poem composed by local poet Alan Brown.
Others spoke about their thoughts on war and violence.
A wreath of white poppies was laid in the middle of the group and was later taken to the Peace Garden in All Saints churchyard.
