SHINFIELD residents are being invited to take part in a volunteer day on Saturday, October 14, to help get Deardon Orchard up to scratch.
An arboriculturist will be attending the volunteer day to help coordinate the work, advise and answer any questions participants have on trees or wildlife more broadly.
Visitors on the day will take part in pruning, mulching and staking of trees, with refreshments supplied by the parish council. Volunteers are encouraged to bring a packed lunch and dress appropriately.
Lynda Hope, the parish council’s communications officer, said: “We are delighted to have installed two new, and much anticipated, picnic benches at Deardon Orchard which were championed by Cllr Ian Clarke, chair of the council’s facilities committee.
“The benches have been installed so everyone can access and use them. Although the surrounding soil has been seeded, it will take some time for it to establish.
“We are already delighted to see that families and dog walkers are already utilising them in this lovely late summer weather.”
