TRAFFIC WARDENS will be issuing tickets across the borough from Monday and the range of fines that people will be charged has been released by Wokingham Borough Council.
In addition, the council has said it is now issuing virtual permits for all on and off-street parking, replacing the paper permits it had previously used.
It said that the online process means that the new parking enforcement officers will know if a permit has been issued to a vehicle or not.
There are no changes to charges – but the council will no longer issue reminders to reapply for a pass.
A council spokesperson said: “Sadly, we can no longer send reminder letters when your permit is due to expire, so please make a note when you need to renew it.”
Most of the fines issued by the council will be for £70, but some parking contraventions will be £50.
“If they are paid within 14 days of the date that the parking ticket was issued, the fine will be halved, and if no fine is paid within 28 days, the fine will be increased to £105 or £75.
In the case of appeals, if this is rejected, there will be a further 14 day period to pay at the discounted rate.
£70 fines
- Parking in a restricted street either during restricted hours, loading/unloading restrictions are in force
- Parking in a resident or shared use bay without permit or ticket
- Using a vehicle parked in a parking place for selling
- Parking in a suspended bay or space
- Not parking within the markings of a bay or space; parking more than 50cm away from the kerb or parking next to a dropped kerb
- Parking and not unloading in an unloading bay
- Parking on roads raised to meet a footway, cycle track or verge
- Parking in a disabled space without a permit
- Stopping in a taxi rank, bus stop or on a red route. The same fine applies to stopping in a restricted area outside a school, police station, fire station or hospital
- Parking on a cycle lane or with one or more wheels on a footpath or carriageway
- A commercial vehicle parked in contravention with signs
- Parking on verges, lawns or greens owned by Wokingham Borough Council
- Stopping on a pedestrian crossing
- Parking in an electric vehicle charging station and not charging the car
- Parking in a car park’s restricted area
- Exceeding the maximum weight or height of a space
- Parking that causes an obstruction
£50 fines
- Parking in a residents or shared use space after allotted time expires
- Returning to a space/car park after allotted time expires
- Parking for longer than the allotted time
- Leaving the engine running
- Parking after a car park has closed
There are four areas where Wokingham Borough Council’s new traffic wardens won’t patrol: the M4, the A329M, the A3290 and the A33.
