POLICE are appealing for information after a pet cat was shot in the face with an air rifle in Waltham St Lawrence.
Archie, an all-black cat, was shot at some time between the end of March and the beginning of April, in or around Milley Road and Neville Close.
He was taken to a local vet where a suspected air rifle pellet was removed from his left cheek. His wounds required stitches but he is expected to make a full recovery.
PC Ryan Vaughan of Maidenhead police station said: “Our initial enquiries have found that air rifle target shooting has been taking place in the fields behind Milley Road. It may be that Archie was an unlucky victim but we are keen to speak to anyone involved in target shooting in the area, particularly during the recent school holiday.
“Any deliberate act of animal cruelty found to have taken place, will be dealt with in the appropriate manner.”
Anyone with any information should call the Thames Valley Police enquiry centre on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
