More details have been revealed for a former bank in Wokingham town centre.
Agents for the owners have applied to Wokingham Borough Council to make external changes to Broad House at 5 Broad Street, the former home of Nat West bank that closed in February 2023.
The first floor of the property was recently converted into flats. Now, the applicant has applied to replace the existing door with ‘maximised glazing’ to ‘help attract customers and support sustainable local business’.
Wokingham Today first revealed in September 2023 that two retail spaces were part of initial plans for the property.
The new plans argue the proposed design reflects the character of the local area, and doesn’t ‘negatively affect’ the existing building.
In its planning statement, agent Barbarella Architecture and Design said: “Retail is facing significant challenges as it struggles to survive in a rapidly changing landscape.
“Good visibility, along with windows and doors featuring maximised glazing, is essential for attracting customers.”
A consultation on the plans remains open until March 10. For more information, search application 250303 on Wokingham Borough Council’s planning portal.
