Wargrave tennis club has applied for permission to install a pop-up padel tennis court at Recreation Road next year.
In its application to Wokingham Borough Council, it said: “Wargrave tennis club would like to install a temporary single padel court from April 2025 for the benefits of our members.
“We are proposing that we install a single “pop-up” court that requires no foundations.
“The court would be installed on the northern end of court number 8 (the court in the south-east corner, and furthest from any residential dwelling).
“The court would have low-level LED lighting that is below the existing court lights i.e. would have even less glare.”
It said padel is an incredibly popular short-court tennis format, played on a smaller court with see-thru plastic walls – it’s a hybrid of tennis meets squash.
It added: “In a recent survey, 70% of members were supportive of the idea.”
A consultation into the plans remains open until December 23.
