QUESTIONS were raised on the now cancelled proposal to change Woodlands Avenue making it one-way, to allow a cycle lane to be placed on the busy Woodley road.
Beth Rowland, a former Lib Dem councillor for the town, attended the meeting of Wokingham Borough Council held on Thursday, March 24. She wanted to know “What lessons has the Council learnt about managing change from this exercise and what will it do differently to carry residents with it on its plan to get more people walking and cycling?”
Cllr Pauline Jorgensen, the executive member for highways and transport, said the consultation was to get feedback from residents and other stakeholders, and the scheme was “ambitious”.
“The feedback means that we need to make changes to some elements of the scheme. We will be working with stakeholders, including the town councils before we launch a new consultation later in the year,” she said.
“We appreciate that in hindsight it would have been beneficial for Officers to engage stakeholders ahead of the public consultation and this is something we will be doing for the next iteration of the scheme.”
While the proposal will be revamped, Ms Rowland wanted to know more about why Woodley Town Council hadn’t been consulted before the public.
“There was a glitch in communications, that won’t happen again,” Cllr Jorgensen said.
