Reading FC got back to winning ways with a 2-0 win over Bristol City on Saturday afternoon.

After a forgettable first-half, Mamadou Loum broke the deadlock in the 52nd minute, rising highest to head home a Tom Ince corner.

The Royals put the game beyond City’s reach, as Shane Long’s endeavour allowed Andy Carroll to fire home deep into stoppage time.

The win sees Paul Ince’s men jump up to seventh in the table.

Joe Lumley 6: Not forced into any saves of note. Largely commanded his area, although some of his punches could have had more conviction.

Junior Hoilett 6: Another diligent performance at right wing-back. Was not able to venture forward as much as usual, but offered Mbengue sufficient protection.

Amadou Mbengue 7: A committed display on his first home start. Made a crucial last-ditch intervention to deny an on-rushing Weimann midway through the second 45.

Tom Holmes 7: Did well to nullify the early threat from Wells and Semenyo. Was not afraid to put a foot in after Bristol made changes up top.

Tom McIntyre 7: Stood up to the challenge offered by the Robins front-line, particularly enjoying the physical battle with Weimann in the second half.

Baba Rahman 5: Not the most confident of displays from the left wing-back. A lack of awareness saw him concede a free-kick in a dangerous area, picking up an unnecessary yellow card.

Tom Ince 6: A gutsy display. Got the assist for Loum’s goal and should have put the game to bed sooner when presented with a one-on-one but could only fire straight at O’Leary.

Mamadou Loum 7: Rose highest to put the Royals ahead, heading home a Tom Ince corner. Broke up the play well, but lost possession a few times in dangerous areas.

Jeff Hendrick 6: A game of two halves for the Irishman, who backed up a forgettable opening 45 minutes with a far more positive showing in the second half, creating multiple chances for his teammates.

Lucas Joao 5: Was given minimal service throughout, but worked hard to create openings. Replaced by Long in the 68th minute.

Yakou Meite 7: Had a great opportunity to get on the scoresheet in the first few minutes, but could not direct his header goalwards. Dominant in the air otherwise, winning the majority of his flick-ons.

Shane Long 7: Put in the hard yards after replacing Joao and was rewarded with a well-deserved assist for Carroll’s stoppage time goal.

Nelson Abbey 6: Came on late on and helped Reading see out the game.

Andy Carroll 7: Could not have been more efficient with his seven minutes on the pitch. Grabbed a goal and did a stellar job in averting long balls into his own box.

Subs: Bouzanis, Guinness-Walker, Fornah, Ejaria
