RUBEN Selles’ Reading played out a 0-0 draw against Burton on Saturday afternoon, which lacked any real moments of quality.
The Royals fashioned more openings than their opponents but couldn’t break the deadlock in a game that will be remembered more for the tennis ball protest in the 16th minute than the football.
Here’s how the players rated:
David Button 6: Didn’t have an awful lot to do, but handled the ball well whenever it came into his area.
Tyler Bindon 6: Adapted well at right-back, never afraid to come forward with the ball. Just about answered the questions asked of him by Kwadwo Baah, Burton’s biggest threat.
Harlee Dean 6: Led the back line well. Was assured and won most of his duels.
Tom McIntyre 6: Did everything required of him before picking up a nasty knock to the head just before the interval. Was taken off and replaced by
Matt Carson 5: A couple of missed tackles early on but gained confidence as the game went on. Delivered a typically teasing cross just before he was replaced which just evaded Ballard.
Charlie Savage 6: Came close with a couple of efforts from the edge of the box. Brought plenty of energy to the middle of the park.
Lewis Wing 5: Took a while to get up to speed, losing possession on a number of occasions early on, but grew into the game. Will improve with minutes under the belt.
Harvey Knibbs 5: Brought his usual energy to the press, and looked to get in behind whenever Button or the defenders were on the ball. Could have been more effective in the final third.
Ben Elliott 6: Some really nice moments on the ball, showcasing his ability to burst away from markers. Could have offered Bindon more support defensively.
Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan 6: Did most of his best work in the channels, which might not be where Selles would want him. Held the ball up well.
Femi Azeez 6: Put himself into plenty of promising positions, coming close to breaking the deadlock multiple times. Just couldn’t put the ball in the back of the net.
Substitutes:
Nelson Abbey 7: Bounced back well from an indifferent performance at Blackpool with another commanding display.
Paul Mukairu 5: Added some guile in attack but ultimately couldn’t change the outcome of the game.
Dom Ballard 6: Perhaps should have got on the scoresheet having been presented with some quality openings. Linked the play up well in the transition.
