Reading FC lost 2-0 to West Brom at the Select Car Leasing Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Goals from Matt Phillips and Taylor Gardner-Hickham either side of the break were enough to secure all three points for the Baggies.

The loss sees the Royals fall to sixth in the table, while West Brom pulled themselves out of the relegation zone.

Dean Bouzanis 5: Was beaten at his near post by Phillips’ side-footed effort. Not entirely convincing when claiming crosses. Will not have given Lumey anything to worry about.

Junior Hoilett 6: An early knock would not have helped the Canadian’s cause, but he put in another confident performance. Could have got on the scoresheet late on.

Andy Yiadom 5: Put himself about, but could not offer the attacking threat he has in previous matches. Made a goal-saving intervention to deny Diangana a sure goal at the start of the second half.

Tom Holmes 5: Primarily controlled the threat offered by the agile Thomas-Asante, using his positioning to make up for the discrepancy in pace.

Tom McIntyre 6: A decent showing in his usual left-sided centre-back role. Looked to get forward more in the second half and even got booked for a dive just outside West Brom’s box.

Nesta Guinness-Walker 5: Was not at the same level he has been showing of late. Overcommitted for West Brom’s first goal and struggled to handle the threat of Wallace and Phillips.

Jeff Hendrick 4: Giving the ball away for the second goal pretty much summed up his afternoon. Looked lost in the middle of the park. Missed a golden chance to get the Royals back into the game.

Mamadou Loum 4: Seemed assured at times, but often took one touch too many. Broke up the play well, but is yet to match the levels he did against Blackburn and Stevenage. Is still finding his feet in the Championship.

Tom Ince 5: Tried to set the tone for the home side, but picked up an early booking for an overzealous challenge. Was only able to show his offensive threat late on when the Royals were chasing the scoreboard.

Lucas Joao 5: Was not able to impose himself on the game, struggling to get the ball to stick. Presented with two chances to head home, but failed to convert. Is lacking a bit of confidence.

Andy Carroll 6: A solid performance from the front man, considering the quality of service into him. Used almost every part of his body to play in teammates off the goal-kicks. Could not fashion any real openings for himself.

Yakou Meite 5: Could have got on the scoresheet had it not been for the heroics of Palmer. Would probably liked to have made more of an impact on the game given how few opportunities he’s had since coming back from injury.

Subs: Boyce-Clark, Long, Fornah, Mbengue, Abbey, Senga
