SHOPKEEPERS are being urged not to sell flour and eggs to under 18s in the run up to Hallowe’en on Tuesday, October 31.
Thames Valley Police wants people to observe rituals such as trick or treating without resorting to anti-social behaviour, and limiting sales of the baking ingredients is one way to try and do that.
Officers say that while some think it is harmless to vandalise homes by egging them or covering them in flour, the practice can cause alarm and distress to our vulnerable and elderly members of the community.
As a result, they are urging shopkeepers not to sell the items commonly used to make cakes to under 18s or anyone they think may be about to use them for ‘prank ammunition’.
It has created a poster for businesses to display indicating that the sale of such items will be at their discretion during the Hallowe’en season.
