Pocket-sized pieces of art will be sold to fund a new public work of art for Wokingham.
The Arts4Wokingham charity has sourced a range of unique postcard works of art from a mix of amateur, semi-professional and professional artists.
Jane Bonney, a local artist who is driving this venture, is thrilled at the quality and variety of postcard art on offer.
She said: “Artists and enthusiasts have been so generous and creative with their contributions.
“We have almost 100 postcards to sell.
“This is the second year we’ve staged a postcard art event on this scale, and the offerings have been fantastic.
“With stunning works from as little as £10, there’s something to suit everyone’s budget.’
Following an invitation-only private preview on Thursday November 23, all the works on offer will be available to view and buy in Wokingham library on Friday, November 24, and Saturday, November 25.
All the artists have donated their work to help raise funds for a new landmark sculpture, The Arc, to be sited outside Wokingham’s Carnival Hub.
So, not only will you be able to own something very special, but you’ll also be helping to fund Wokingham’s most significant work of public art to date.
The spectacular stainless steel sculpture will be designed by internationally-acclaimed artist Nicola Anthony.
Nicola beat off competition from more than 60 other artists, with her concept of a striking multi-arched stainless steel sculpture, now dubbed The Arc.
She has been working with a range of local residents and community groups to source stories, thoughts and experiences which capture the essence of what defines the local area.
Drawing upon her signature style, she will identify meaningful words and phrases which will be cut out and profiled within the steel arches themselves. An audio element will be included, together with lighting, which will enable The Arc to be seen and appreciated in a variety of different ways.
