Reading had to come from behind twice as goals from George Puscas and Sam Baldock earned a draw against Queens Park Rangers.
Nahki Wells opened the scoring before George Puscas replied quickly to put Reading on terms, while a 74th minute leveller from Sam Baldock cancelled out Jordan Hugill’s goal.
Reading made three changes from their win over Preston with Richards, Rinomhota and Baldock all coming into the starting eleven.
Reading’s prime creator Ovie Ejaria again showcased his great quality as he found threaded the ball through to Sam Baldock, but the striker blasted the ball straight at QPR goalkeeper Liam Kelly.
Ejaria continued to cause problems for Rangers as he twisted his way past two defenders on the edge of the box before striking a testing effort on goal which was pushed behind for a corner by Kelly.
Having made a hero of himself with the 98th minute winner against Preston, Matt Miazga could count himself lucky to stay on the pitch after a tangle with Angel Rangel saw the USA international raise an elbow in the face of his opponent, which went unseen by the officials.
Miazga then made a superb block on the line before Andy Yiadom threw himself in front of Nahki Wells’ shot from close range, with the replays appearing to show the ball strike his arm in the box.
QPR then took the lead just before the half hour mark as Eberechi Eze slotted the ball through to Wells who struck his shot into the bottom corner from just outside the box.
But Rangers would show their defensive frailties having failed to keep a clean sheet all season as the Royals replied instantly. Ejaria bent a perfect through ball for Puscas who sprinted through on goal from the half way line and slotted the ball into the corner past the onrushing Kelly to equalise.
The goal sees Puscas break his goal drought having not scored since Reading’s 3-0 over Cardiff City in August where the Romanian scored a brace.
QPR re-took the lead in the 58th minute through Hugill who met Wells’ flick on and found the back of the net via a deflection off Reading skipper Liam Moore.
Bowen made his first change of the match bringing on Garath McCleary for Andy Rinomhota to make his first appearance of the season.
The Royals found a deserved equaliser for the second time in the match with Sam Baldock scoring his first goal since December 2018.
Swift’s deep cross was headed back across the box from Yiadom before the ball brushes off McCleary, leaving Baldock to smash the ball in from two yards out.
The visitors looked more likely to take three points having equalised but would have to settle for a hard earned point in their first away game under Bowen’s management.
An away trip against in form Nottingham Forest comes next for Reading who are in 20th position in the Championship having played 13 games.
