Raw Sounds Today playlist: Featuring Voodoo Radio, Cybernaut, Frant1c and more

Each week, there are 10 great acts in our playlist, all with a connection to Reading or Wokingham.

Voodoo Radio – Space Girl –

It’s amazing the power and energy that the Cumbrian father/daughter duo of singer/guitarist Paige and guitarist Tony create with just the two of them.
It’s an impressive sight and sound which they showed when they returned to Reading last month to support the Inspiral Carpets at Sub 89. The music they create is pop rock with loads of hooks delivered with humour and great interaction between the duo and with the crowd. This song is from their excellent ‘Pop Pills’ album.
It’s a fun filled riff laden groove with sing along chorus as are all the great songs on the album – https://www.voodooradio.co.uk/

Cybernaut – Califrae –

We go back in time now with some 90’s trance! This band with members from the local area were known for their incredible live sets at clubs around the country including the legendary Escape From Samara nights at The Fridge in Brixton. The band disbanded long ago but I still have great memories of those days having released their album, ‘Hydrophonics’ on our Magick Eye Records label. This year is the 30th Anniversary of the band being formed so Reading based DJ and band manager, Bob Hughes, will be playing a special Cybernaut DJ set in celebration. It’s in Frome at the 23 Bath Street venue on Friday, September 20. It should be a special night and well worth a trek to Somerset – https://www.facebook.com/cybernautuk

Frant1c – Where Have You Been? –

Have a squeeze from Beans on Toast’s toothpaste album – one of the tracks on the RaW Sounds Today playlist

Frant1c is a project initiated by Anne-Claire Rallo of Nine Skies & Solace Supplice and she has created an album called ‘A Brand New World’ that is due for release on 27th September.
I’ve been lucky to have had heard the full album already and I can confirm that is a wonderful listen. Anne-Claire has certainly created something special here.
It’s a concept album based around a story of two characters, Charlie and Hope and it was born out of the grief suffered by Anne-Claire following the loss of the late Eric Bouillette, who many will know as former guitarist of The Room.
Among the many great musicians that contribute to the album are Eric’s band mates in The Room – Steve Anderson, Andy Rowe and vocalist Martin Wilson who provides a dramatic and emotional performance as the voice of Charlie. This song is the first single from the album – https://linktr.ee/frant1c

Áine Deane – the one before the one –
This song was picked by Helen Taylor of the Wokingham Festival management team as one of her fave performances at the event.
It’s the extremely talented singer songwriter Áine Deane – https://www.ainedeanemusic.com/

Sour Kix – Take A Ride –
This was the choice of Julie Wills another key member of the Wokingham Festival team as she thought that they were full of youthful energy and enthusiasm on stage – https://
www.sourkix.com/

That Joe Payne – Love (not the same) –
The second choice by Julie who thought that Joe’s live duet with Sarah Bayley from The Paradox Twin on this song was particularly memorable. This is the original version featuring Amy Birks – https://www.thatjoepayne.com/

The Room – Flesh and Bone –
Helen second choice as she enjoys melodic rock with prog influences. The Room are certainly one of the best at that – https://theroom.band/

Inspiral Carpets – Dragging Me Down –
Now, a non festival track and a classic from the 90’s band who showed what a great live band they are at Sub 89 – https://inspiralcarpets.com/

Wreckless Eric – Whole Wide World –
He was at Reading Face Bar this week! It’s the legendary Wreckless Eric and this song is an all time classic – https://www.wrecklesseric.com/

Rila’s Edge – Deal –
This band from Wokingham headlined the main stage in style at Wokingham Festival. They were stunning – https://www.facebook.com/rilasedge
