READING kicked off their pre-season with back-to-back victories over Queens Park Rangers.
In a double header at the Royals’ Hogwood training ground in Finchampstead, a string of first team stars and youth players took part across the afternoon.
Reading won the first match 2-1 thanks to goals from Roy Beerens and Ryan East, cancelling out a Conor Washington penalty.
But teenage striker Danny Loader stole the show on the day, netting four goals as Royals thrashed QPR 5-2 in the second game with Adrian Popa also on the scoresheet.
Jaap Stam has now taken his squad to Oosterbeek in Holland for their 10-day pre-season training camp.
26 players have made the trip, which will include four behind-closed-doors friendlies against KV Kortrijk of Belgium, Turkish outfit Genclerbirligi, Dutch side Sparta Rotterdam and a second Belgian opposition in Cercle Brugge.
Included in the travelling party are new signing Pelle Clement and Jake Cooper, despite the defender being linked with a move away from the club.
But Ali Al-Habsi and Dominic Samuel are not involved as they close in on moves away while Yann Kermorgant is among a number of injured players missing after undergoing hip and groin surgery. This will force him to miss the start of the season.
Squad in full: Barrett, Beerens, Blackett, Clement, Cooper, Driscoll, East, Evans, Frost, Gunter, Ilori, Jaakkola, Kelly, Legg, Loader, McShane, Moore, Obita, Popa, Quinn, Richards, Rinomhota, Smith, Swift, van den Berg, Ward.
