STEVE CLARKE has this morning been sacked as manager of Reading after a run of just one win in eight matches.
Royals were flying high in second place after a fine run of early season form saw them pick up six wins out of a possible seven including victories away to promotion chasing Burnley and home to Middlesbrough.
But, as well as results taking a dip, Clarke’s relationship with the club soured last month when he decided to go and speak to Fulham about their vacant managerial position, a post which is still yet to be filled.
Clarke has been defiant since deciding to stay, but did admit the owners were unhappy with his decision to speak with the Cottagers.
And after last night’s 1-0 defeat at home to Queens Park Rangers, they have decided to make a change and remove Clarke from his post after discussions this morning.
In a statement, the club placed on record its thanks for his “hard work and diligence” but said after recent results they felt “a change in manager is now necessary”.
Assistant manager Kevin Keen has also been dismissed with Under-21s boss Martin Kuhl taking temporary charge of the first team as the club begin a search for a new manager.
