READING Trans Movement is staging a march through town on Saturday, April 1, to mark International Transgender Day of Visibility.
The annual event is dedicated to celebrating transgender people and raising awareness of the continued discrimination faced by the trans community, taking place on March 31 each year.
Reading Trans Movement is inviting trans people, supporters, and allies to take part in the march on Saturday to show solidarity with the community.
Attendees are to meet outside Metro Bank, Broad Street, from 2pm and proceed through to Forbury Gardens, where a number of speakers have also been invited to give an address.
Reading Trans Movement has been supporting members of the trans and gender non-conforming community and undertaking activism in Reading to advocate for the rights of trans and GNC people.
It led recent events marking Transgender Day of Rememberance and the vigil following the death of Brianna Ghey last month.
International Transgender Day of Visibility was first held in 2009 as activist Rachel Crandall noted that the only international recognition the cause was getting was in remembrance.
She also noted that support from fellow members of the LGBTQ+ community was lacking, and TDoV is intended to celebrate the community and advocate for its rights as such.
The Transgender Day of Visibility march will take place from 2pm on Saturday, April 1, leading from Broad Street to Forbury Gardens.
