PEOPLE have been sending Wokingham.Today their photographs of a new piece of road signage that made them look twice.
Signs were erected near to the Tesco Wokingham roundabout, in anticipation of the opening of the town’s new Wokingham Distributor Road, which will run between Finchampstead Road and London Road.
Intended as a key access route for new homes and other infrastructure, the route is scheduled to be fully open at the end of the year, with the new link road connecting Easthampstead Road to the distributor road, not expected to open until May.
Until then, drivers new to the area might have been forgiven for being confused if they had tried to follow the signs to the A329 and the M4.
Currently they wouldn’t currently get any further than the Tesco Wokingham car park.

“The road hasn’t been built yet that could eventually get you to the A329 and M4,” said one resident.
“And if you turn left at the roundabout on the sign, you just end up in Tesco car park.
“It’s been put up a bit too early.”
“The future is already here,” said another.
Wokingham Borough Council says the sign was put up slightly prematurely as part of the road improvement project, but that it has been corrected with a temporary measure until the new road is open.
