Welsh rock band Cardinal Black treated Reading to an exceptional live performance at Sub 89, Reading, as they played their penultimate show in their UK tour.
Currently on their UK tour promoting their album ‘Welcome to Valencia’, they played a 90 minute set which captured the attention of the audience throughout.
Rosie Frater-Taylor opened the night as the support act and wowed the crowd with her impressive vocals and effortless lead guitar, including a majestic rendition of Kate Bush’s ‘Running Up That Hill’.
Headliners Cardinal Black took the stage and immediately captivated the audience with lead vocalists Tom Hollister’s voice bounding through the venue.
The rhythm section of the band, Sam Williams On bass, Adam Roberts on drums and Michael Blanchfield on keys held the sound together seamlessly which allowed lead guitarist Chris Buck to shine through with his exceptional playing.
Buck’s stunning guitar work was a mainstay throughout the show as he performed elaborate yet excellently controlled solos on almost every track to help give the band their signature sound.
Helping to cement that signature sound were Hollister’s powerful, soulful vocals, complemented superbly by the backing vocals of Tay Cousins.
The band ripped through a set which included some unheard tracks on their upcoming album, as well as fan favourites such as ‘Where Do You Go’, ‘Warm Love’ and ‘Your Spark (Blows Me To Pieces)’.
After a rousing encore, the band returned with two final songs with ‘Push/Pull’ before closing the night with the with ‘Tied Up In Blue’, which included a breathtaking guitar solo from Buck before Cousins And Hollister again showcased their spectacular vocals.
Cardinal Black have just one date remaining on their UK tour, in Brighton, before they travel around Europe to support Alter Bridge’s Myles Kennedy on his solo tour.
