The first act for this year’s Living Advent Calendar was Wokingham’s Rock Choir.
The group launched the 24-day arts extravaganza outside Wokingham Town Hall at 6.15pm.
Every day between December 1 and 24 there will be a short performance from a range of acts including live bands, choirs, dance groups, musicians, a capella groups and much more, including The Rock Choir, Military Wives Choir and local musician Bruce Neil.
There’s also a heart to the calendar: it’s in support of three local charities: Macmillan Cancer Support, Just Around the Corner and Dingley Family and Specialist Early Years Centres.
Each night’s activities – bar two dates – is a closely guarded secret, with the aim being that you are surprised when you arrive. Performances are at 6.15pm on weekdays and 4pm on Saturdays.
The December 2 event is the annual dressing of the Christmas tree, which will be led by the town mayor, Cllr Philip Mirfin. This event takes place from 6.15pm to approximately 7pm.
