THE LUCKY winner of an anniversary prize draw is looking forward to a weekend break in a luxury hotel, thanks to the generosity of his Wokingham physiotherapist.
Sam Methold, who grew up in Twyford, was one of a number of patients to attend an appointment in January at Rodger Duckworth Physiotherapy Practice in January.
The Rectory Road practice celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, so Rodger Duckworth and his wife Rachel wanted to mark the occasion with a special prize draw that month.
Thanks to his win, Sam and his fiance will be able to enjoy a two night getaway with a dinner thrown in, at Pennyhill Park Hotel in Bagshot.
“We’re getting married in September, so the timing for this couldn’t be better,” said Sam.
“And I’m a big fan of England Rugby, and they actually train at Pennyhill Park.
“It’s very timely, as we’re in the middle of The Six Nations Championship right now.”
“Rodger has treated my whole family, and I’ve seen him since I was at school, where, rowing and playing rugby, I picked up various injuries, including to my back.”
It was 30 years ago, after Rodger had been practising from a spare room at home for a year, that he and Rachel came upon the Wokingham property.
“It had once been a bustling family home with seven bedrooms, but when we took it on it was a mess,” said Rachel.
“However, we restored and renovated it and we’ve been here ever since.
“It feels like a real achievement to have reached 30 years, especially having gone through the pandemic, when as neither leisure, hospitality nor retail we got no support.
“It’s very tough for small business just now, and it has been quite a challenge.
“We’ve seen so many in Wokingham come and go, so we’re delighted still to be here.”
Rodger agrees.
He said: “We felt we should mark what has been a long journey.
“I was just 26 when we came here, and it was a big leap to take on a place with ceilings hanging out.
“But it paid off, and we’ve had a lot of wonderful people on our team over the years.
“I think I’ve counted 64 or more that we’ve employed, some of whom have since been able to launch their own businesses.
“So our anniversary isn’t just about me, but for all the people who’ve helped support the business.
“Ours is an important role in the community and makes a big difference to people.
“Much of my work these days involves dealing with deep psychological trauma and how it affects the body.
“It feels like a huge privilege to be granted people’s trust to work with them at very deep levels.”
