Noon, EBOS
FANS of musicals will need little introduction to EBOS. From their base at Pinewood Leisure Centre, they have crafted a range of hit shows, including Little Shop of Horrors and Monty Python’s Spamalot. Work is currently underway for their next big production, which is bound to leave you wanting more: Lionel Bart’s Oliver! The show will be performed at South Hill Park in early November and the cast will be bound to pick a pocket or two as they drum up ticket sales.
Their appearance at Wokingham Festival will include a medley of popular songs from the shows as well as offering a preview of Oliver! and its autumn show, Musicals Miscast Encore.
Performed at the Pinewood Theatre on Friday, September 28, the evening promises to be a cabaret with a twist, turning Broadway backwards, sideways and any other ways EBOS members can get away with.
The group open the music at Wokingham Festival with their show on Saturday – break a leg!
12.50pm, Eric Clapton Tribute by The Fabulous Duck Brothers
TAKE the songs of Eric Clapton and seven professional musicians who also happen to be major fans of the music legend.
The result is The Fabulous Duck Bros, the UK’s ultimate tribute to the music of Eric Clapton, winner of 18 Grammys, four Ivor Novellos and the outstanding contribution to music award.
This amazing tribute band went down a storm at Marvellous and if you missed them, this is your chance to hear what all the fuss is about.
The Fabulous Duck Brothers cover the whole amazing career of Eric Clapton from his solo performances, his times with Derek and the Dominoes and Cream. They include such classic songs as Layla, Wonderful Tonight, Lay Down Sally, Badge, I Shot the Sheriff, Crossroads, Knocking on Heavens Door and Bell Bottom Blues.
2pm, The Makeshifts
THE Makeshifts have been described as one of Wokingham’s best kept musical secrets.
But once you hear their innovative and infectious sound, you will never forget them.
The Makeshifts are a 6 piece band playing a diverse variety of iconic 60s, 70s and 80s rock and pop.
They may not be losing their religion on Baker Street but they definitely go One Step Beyond. This hugely talented band will take you on a musical history tour of some of the greatest music from some of the best-loved performers from around the world.
And if you don’t remember those heady musical days of the late 20th century, then bring your comfy shoes as you will not be able to stop dancing and singing along.
Expect an explosive set played with style and gusto from one of Wokingham’s most talented groups.
3pm, Chris Trim Band
MAKING the short trip from his native Reading is Chris Trim who, despite only being in his 20s, has played at numerous events and festivals.
His original songs have an acoustic pop flavour with hints of folk and blues and Chris has a heart for storytelling lyrics and melodies that capture you in the moment.
Whether it’s soft, heartfelt whispers or explosive roars of emotion, Chris’ voice will hit you with passion and grace. He has a passion for songwriting as well as performing and is one of those performers who instantly clicks with his audience.
For the past year, he’s been off the scene focusing on writing and recording, but he’s now back with a bang being sought after for gigs locally and further afield.
Fans old and new will be delighted to know Chris will have his full band with him.
4.15pm, Dani and Will Wilde
BROTHER and sister, Dani and Will delight and enthral with a set of great tunes be they Blues, Country or Gospel with inspiring musicianship of the highest order
Over the past 10 years singer-songwriter Dani has secured three number ones in the Official I-tunes Blues Music Charts (Two self-penned songs and a cover of The Rolling Stones Bitch as part of the girl group Girls With Guitars).
Will Wilde has taken the harmonica way beyond its blues roots since he first emerged on the music scene in 2010. Always pushing forward, evolving and redefining his sound, Wilde is now ready to take the rock world by storm.
On his latest album, Bring it on Home, his hard-edged harmonica steals the spotlight from the traditional rock guitar, with a sound that owes as much to Jimmy Page or Ritchie Blackmore as it does to Sonny Boy Williamson or Little Walter.
5.30pm, Wild Blue Angels
A BLEND of US and UK players, the Wild Blue Angels combine their collective experience to produce their own particular brand of country-rock music. As they say, “putting the Rock into Country and the Country into Rock”…
This six-piece band will be playing songs from their forthcoming album along with a few classic country-rock favourites.
Recently back from recording in Nashville, Wild Blue Angels bring their unplugged acoustic set to the Wokingham Festival. Enjoy songs from their forthcoming album along with a few classic country-rock favourites.
This is one band that is really putting the rock into country and the country into rock.
6.45pm, Gemma Dorsett and the Eleven:11 Band
After being told at the age of 16, that being a rockstar was not a viable career option, Gemma decided to follow her heart and do it anyway.
Honing her craft on the live music circuit, she was taken under the wing of female rock sensations Never The Bride joining them on stage and is now hosting her own sell-out shows.
When she arrives on stage, you feel her raw energy and passion, and she’s blossoming into a truly professional blue-eyed soul, blues, rock & surprise surprise, Gospel singer.
And, reminiscent to the late, great Joe Cocker, her voice is an instrument of soul-baring emotion.
Gemma currently leads blues/rock band Eleven:11, who play the music of Joe Bonamassa, Etta James, King King, Susan Tedeschi and more.
She also works with acclaimed rock band Never The Bride, with whom she has co-written an EP available soon.
8pm, The Average Chalky White Band
The Average Chalky White Band are a dynamic nine-Piece band with a horn section playing up-tempo soul, funk, and rock.
Classic songs by the greats such as Stevie Wonder, James Brown, Wilson Pickett, Bruno Mars, The Stones, Van Morrison, Blur, The Average White Band and Madness all receive the ACWB’s unique treatment – and will get you moving and dancing.
They have a great time playing, and the fun is infectious: The Average Chalky White Band: Purveyors of Quality Grooves Since 2005.
9.30pm to close, Totally Blondie
TOTALLY Blondie aim to be the most authentic Blondie Tribute around.
Lead singer, Aurora, always wanted to front a rock band and performing in a Blondie tribute band has always been in the back of her mind.
She says: “For years, people have stopped me in the street to tell me how much I look like Debbie Harry. During a recent acoustic concert, someone in the audience even shouted out Debbie Harry 1977 when I came on stage.”
Thanks to the versatility of her vocals, her confident stage presence, and her natural Debbie Harry looks, Aurora and the band will give you the Totally Blondie experience.
