SCOTT MARSHALL says Reading fans should not be concerned by the delay in appointing a new permanent boss.
Under-23s manager Marshall stepped up on a caretaker basis to replace Paul Clement, who left the club on December 6, with first choice Portuguese boss Luis Castro believed to have turned down a switch to Berkshire.
The club’s owners are still thought to be keen on appointing an overseas boss with Rio Ave’s Jose Manuel

Gomes the current bookmaker’s favourite ahead of English-based duo Phil Parkinson (Bolton Wanderers) and Gareth Ainsworth (Wycombe Wanderers).
And Marshall says the slow and steady approach is best.
“Are the fans frustrated? There’s a time frame to go through,” he said.
“I think we’ve got a very experienced man at CEO now in Nigel (Howe).
“He knows what he’s doing.
“I don’t think there’s any harm in taking your time in making the right decisions along the way.
“I’m sure Reading fans would want the right decision made over a period of time. If that takes a little bit longer then it should do and people should be professional and focussed on making the right decision, rather than making a quick decision.
“I think that’s what we’re all doing.”
London Irish confirm they are leaving Reading
As for Marshall, he is expected to continue to take control of the team for Saturday’s visit of Middlesbrough (3pm).
The Scot has a defeat and a draw in his tenure so far, including the weekend’s 1-1 at Rotherham United which lifted the Royals out of the Championship relegation zone.
And he says he is relishing the responsibility of being a first team manager.
“It’s a good challenge and great experience for me,” said Marshall.
“I’m really privileged to be working with some really experienced and good players. I’m enjoying that.
“We’re slowly building a bit of a relationship and getting to know each other.”
Reading hope to welcome back Yakou Meite and John O’Shea over the festive period with Liam Moore and Tiago Ilori also closing in on their returns from injury.
