A CHARITY that helps children and young people with additional needs to attend mainstream activities is celebrating after receiving a grand donation.
The Shanly Foundation visited the Woodley offices of the Me2 Club on Monday to present borough mayor Cllr John Kaiser with a cheque for £5,000, which is going straight to the club, his charity of the year.
Maria Mindak, the Awards Officer from The Shanly Foundation, presented the donation to Cllr Kaiser, much to the delight of the Me2 team. The money comes from profits generated by the Shanly Group of companies.
Tamra Booth, trustee of Shanly Foundation said: “We are delighted to support the Mayor of Wokingham with his appeal for donations to Me2 Club.
“We hope that our donation will further enable the incredible work they do and allow even more children and young people with disabilities enjoy life to the full.
And Cllr Kaiser was delighted that his patronship of the charity is bearing fruit with these generous donations.
He said: “I would like to personally thank Mr Shanly and the Shanly Foundation for such a generous gift to my chosen charity, the Me2 Club.”
The charity said that the money will be used on three special projects: Weekends Away, Days Away and family events. It will also help cover management salary costs.
Cllr Kaiser added: “Helping children and young people who have disabilities live a normal life and become part of their communities is very important and fulfilling, resulting in a positive change to their quality of life.
“Thank you for your part in helping secure the future and allowing the development of the Club which means the work they do can be extended to others who will benefit from the excellent service they provide.”

As part of his support of Me2 Club’s work Cllr Kaiser is organising a Gala Ball on Saturday, March 9, at Sindlesham Court.
It includes a drinks reception followed by a three-course silver service meal.
An auction, raffle draw, music, dancing and live entertainment are also planned.
“This is a wonderful event in aid of the Me2 Club, which works tirelessly to improve the lives of children and young people with additional needs and disabilities,” said Cllr Kaiser.
“I’d love for our residents to join me in this celebration.”

“Not only will his support be raising much needed funds, it’s also helping to raise our profile which is so important for a small charity.
