A SHINFIELD supermarket has been targeted by late-night thieves for the second time in three weeks.

The Co-operative store in School Green was raided in the early hours of Friday, February 8.

Police have said that the robbers took a number of cigarettes and an investigation is ongoing.

The store was ramraided on January 16, when thieves stole cash from a cash machine. Since then, the front door of the Co-op has been replaced by a wooden door.

The supermarket, which opened on the site of the former Royal Oak pub in 2014, was also targeted last year.

A spokesperson for Co-op, said: “There was an incident at our School Green, Shinfield store in the early hours of Friday, February 8.

“Fortunately, no one was hurt and we appeal for anyone with information to come forward to Police, who are investigating.

“The store is expected to re-open later today.”

The Co-op says that it also works closely with police and crime prevention bodies in a bid to deter thieves and increase the likelihood of convictions.

A spokesperson for Thames Valley Police said: “Around 1am a number of offenders gained entry to the Co-operative on School Green, Shinfield.

“The offenders made off in a car taking with them cigarettes. An investigation is ongoing and any one with witness information should call 101 quoting reference 43190041102.”
