ASPIRING entertainers from Wokingham were dancing for joy after receiving £1,000 for their Performing Arts department.
The St Crispin’s School pupils were given the money at the Finchampstead Road Tesco store after shoppers voted with blue tokens as part of the supermarket’s Stronger Starts scheme.
Railton Blyth, senior deputy headteacher at St Crispin’s School, said: “We are delighted and extremely grateful to the Wokingham community for their support in allocating their blue tokens to us.
“The £1,000 has enabled us to purchase 12 radio microphones and receivers with a racking system for our Performing Arts department.
“This invaluable investment is going to further bring alive the performances our talented students deliver, while also allowing them to build confidence through their showpieces.
“We also want to give a big thank-you to Tesco for running their amazing grant programme, which is of such benefit to communities and is an example of their commitment to working with organisations within their neighbourhoods.”
The Stronger Starts scheme, in partnership with the Groundwork charity, supports many Wokingham community projects and good causes, giving away thousands of pounds each year.
Louise Jedras, Community Champion at the Finchampstead Road store, said: “This funding is in recognition of the amazing young performing talent we have here in Wokingham.
“We are so pleased to support them early on in their careers and we hope the equipment enables them to improve their talents even further.”
Wokingham shoppers can use the Stronger Starts scheme to support local groups by dropping the Tesco blue token they receive at checkout into the relevant voting box as they leave the store.
