ON SUNDAY morning, members and friends of Finchampstead Baptist Church set out to clear the local area of litter and waste.
Instead of gathering for their church service they were on a mission to tidy up part of the borough.
Around 60 families took part.
After a breakfast of egg and bacon buns, tea and coffee, and armed with yellow high vis vests, grabbers and bags, they set off, many with with dogs and small children in tow, for the nearby woods and streets.
“Between them, our volunteers collected more than 70 bags of rubbish,” said Dominique Edmonds, from FBC.
“They also found two tents, a rusty camp bed, a sofa cushion, a bike, and a sleeping bag.”
The FBC cafe team delivered more than 200 breakfasts, and twice as many teas and coffees, while the church’s gardening team cleared and tidied Gorse Ride Infant School flower beds of winter leaves.
The event was one of many in the borough as part of The Great British Spring Clean and Great Big School Clean 2025, which runs his year from March 21 to April 6.
