CHILDREN of all ages hoping for a snowfall tomorrow are on tenterhooks after the Met Office revealed earlier this week that it could snow tomorrow – and a yellow warning has been issued for Berkshire.
If snow does fall it could also cause delays to rush hour traffic.
However, any snow could be a fleeting moment as the temperatures are set to rise fairly quickly during the day.
The Met Office has issued an updated warning on the snow, saying that forecasting where it will fall will be difficult. Heavier rain, they warn, will turn to snow more easily and overnight temperatures will help.
Rain is due to start falling from lunchtime today and the Met Office forecast says it will continue through to 5am tomorrow. However, there is a chance that the rain will turn to snow, with the forecast showing this to be most likely at 4am, when temperatures are at their coldest.
While it means that Wokingham is unlikely to wake up to a winter wonderland it does mean that if you get up early you may see some snow.
The Met Office warning states: “A slow-moving band of rain will increasingly interact with the colder air across southern and eastern Britain, with the likelihood of some wintry conditions developing, helped by nighttime cooling.
“As nearly always in such situations, the rain-snow balance will be tricky one, influenced by how heavy the precipitation is (heavier rain turns more easily to snow). For this reason, across some parts of the warning area, the precipitation may stay as light rain, while other places see enough snow to cause a few problems.”
The Met Office will continue to update its forecast as the day goes on and this information can change.
