THE MANAGEMENT of Spin Nightclub said that the decision to close the club had been taken out of their hands and they are saddened not to be allowed to go out with a bang.
They added that the building where the club is housed had been earmarked for a makeover in 2018, but is now not to be.
The Alexandra Court nightclub had been shut suddenly on Thursday, December 21, days before its busiest weekend of the year. Christmas revellers were due to descend on the Wokingham town centre venue to celebrate the season – and it had planned a UV party for New Year’s Eve.
However, the final records have been spun at Spin and the management is not happy.
The nightclub’s management told The Wokingham Paper: “The closure of the club was this was totally out of our control.
“The Spin building – Alexandra Court – is due for redevelopment in 2018.
“We are all very sorry for our customers and staff. We tried so hard to obtain a new lease but the [building owners] were not interested.”
They added: “We are touched by all the lovely comments. And we are sorry we couldn’t go out with a last night.”
Yesterday, Spin put the following comments up on its Facebook page:
“With sadness today Spin Nightclub will be closed. We have had no control over our closure.
“We have had an amazing time with you all and we wish you all a very happy xmas and happy new year.”
The Facebook page will be removed from Saturday, December 23.

Alexandra Court is opposite The Gig House and around the corner from the new Elms Field development. Work starts on this new leisure are in the New Year and will include a boutique cinema, budget cinema chain Premier Inn and an Aldi supermarket. No nightclub is planned for the area.
We have contacted AXA PPP Insurance, who own the building, for a comment, but due to Christmas holidays it may take a few days for this to come back to us.
