A WOKINGHAM church learned at the weekend that its rector is leaving.
St Paul’s Parish has a couple of months in which to say fond farewells to Rev’d Canon Richard Lamey and his family, before they head North later this summer.
Rev’d Lamey said: “I’ve been appointed as the director of mission and ministry in Norwich Diocese, which will mean leaving the parish of St Paul’s in mid-July, moving house in August and then starting work in Norwich in early September.
“It’s a brand new job, and it feels very exciting to be following God’s call to go somewhere new as a family.”
He will be supporting parishes, clergy and lay leaders in Norwich, as well as encouraging discipleship and vocations.
“It will be a lot about building relationships, listening well and helping the local church to try new things and to become more fully the people God is calling us to be,” he said.
“I won’t be based in a parish but will instead be visiting different churches week by week.
“It’s going to be really hard to leave Wokingham because I have been so very happy here, and because we have done so much together.
“I have loved being part of the town and community since 2012.
“But equally, there comes a time when a new challenge is welcome, and new adventures call – and it feels as if that time is now.”
