A WOKINGHAM charity working to alleviate loneliness in isolated older borough residents is delighted to have received a generous cheque from East Berkshire Golf Club.
The Crowthorne club has raised thousands of pounds for The Link Visiting Scheme during its captaincy year 2024/25.
“We are thrilled that East Berkshire Golf Club has raised an incredible £23,500 for the Link Visiting Scheme,” said senior Link fundraising manager Liz McDaniel.
“It means the world to us and will make a significant impact on our work.
“A huge thank you to Marcus Swanston, Club Captain, and Jayne Mattey, Ladies Captain, for choosing us as their joint charity.”
Marcus Swanston told The Link that it had been great fun raising funds for the charity over the past year, and that working with Link members had been the club’s pleasure.
He said: “Jayne and I are immensely proud to have led the fundraising of such a wonderful amount which we are sure will help the charity and its community.
“And we are so very grateful to the members of the East Berkshire Golf Club for their generosity and support.”
As a further result of this year’s very successful fundraising connection, The Link is delighted that some golf club members, inspired by the charity’s mission, have signed up to become volunteers.
The Link Visiting Scheme works to reduce loneliness amongst older people by arranging one-to-one befriending, friendship groups, activities, events and long-term projects such as its Community Kitchen and Link to Nature.
Marcus Swanstonand Jayne Mattey presented the club’s cheque to Liz McDaniel and Link befriending officer Issy Noone at a celebration dinner, which was accompanied by a game of Dame Bingo played with Hottie and Tottie.
