Reading were unable to overtake Leyton Orient into the League One play-off places despite defeating relegation battling Bristol Rovers thanks to goals from Lewis Wing and Chem Campbell.
The Royals, kicking off at the same time as Orient against Wycombe, were hoping to regain their spot in the top six with a win.
However, both sides picked up three points which leaves the table the same as it was going into the game with Reading and Orient level on points, but Orient with a much better goal difference.
That means it’s all to play for heading into the final day of the season next Saturday.
Reading could have started spectacularly when their top scorer Harvey Knibbs spun inside the box and got his shot away which goalkeeper Jed Ward got a vital fingertip on to push it onto the post with just a minute gone.
That proved to be Reading’s best chance in the first-half as it was the Gas who applied the pressure.
Goalkeeper Joel Pereira produced several stunning stops throughout the opening hour of the game to keep his side in the contest.
Despite that, it was Reading who found the breakthrough through captain Lewis Wing who was slotted through in the box by Charlie Wing and he powered his shot past the keeper to spark jubilant celebrations in front of the traveling Royals fans.
Reading were much improved throughout the second half but Rovers came close to a leveller as defender Tyler Bindon had to head clear on the line with less than five minutes to go.
Chem Campbell made sure of the points in stoppage time as he broke into the box and slammed the ball past the keeper to secure the points.
The win means that the race for the final play-off spot goes down to the wire with one game left. Reading are at home to Barnsley, while Orient are away at Huddersfield Town on the final day.
