A GROUP of fundraising women promoted International Women’s Day by making bags for charity.
Members of the Inner Wheel Club of Reading Maiden Erlegh met together for lunch and a double celebration, because this year also marks their organisation’s 100th anniversary.
They brought with them 100 tote bags they had made for Wokingham charity, The Cowshed.
Sheila Thorpe, club correspondent, said: “The Cowshed is such a worthwhile charity for us to support.
“It’s on our doorstep, so we’ve been able to support them with present wrapping for children at Christmas, too.
“The bags we’ve made will be given to their new referrals.”
The Cowshed provides support to people and children of all backgrounds in times of crisis, The bags made by the Inner Wheel Club will be filled with clothing and necessary items for families in need.
“We made exactly 100 bags because this is a very special centenary year for us at the Inner Wheel Club,” said Ms Thorpe.
“We’re following an initiative this year called 100 for 100.
“It encourages us to find unusual ways of celebrating this very special anniversary.”
The Inner Wheel organisation began in the UK in 1924 and is now one of the largest organisations for women.
It has over 100,000 members in more than 103 countries, with membership open to all women since April 2012.

“We have fun and friendship together, and we try to help our community both at home and abroad.
“But we’re very sociable too.
“We meet each month for a meal, to chat, and to hear a visiting speaker.
