“THOSE pesky Lib Dems have foiled me,” said the leader of Wokingham’s Labour group as he attempted to present a petition to the council meeting of Thursday, March 21.
Cllr Andy Croy had collected signatures calling on the council to restore three disabled parking spaces in the Headley Road car park which are opposite the entrance to The Oakwood Centre.
Plans had been made to convert these to EV charging points, but just before the meeting it was revealed the council had postponed this plan until issues had been resolved.
“I had a speech for the ages about the iniquity,” Cllr Croy said. “Unfortunately, those pesky Lib Dems foiled me … they sorted the problem within days of me raising it.”
He thanked councillors Paul Fishwick and Rachel Bishop-Firth for their work on the issue and called on the council to give a written response to the petition “because you never know, those pesky Lib Dems might just change their minds again”.
Cllr Shahid Younis also raised the issue during ward questions later in the meeting.
Editor’s note – The original version of this article suggested Cllr Croy felt failed by the Lib Dems. He actually said foiled, and we are pleased to make this correction. Apologies.
