SPEEDING in Shinfield was raised by Labour party candidate Sarah Bell at last week’s Wokingham Borough Council meeting.
Handing in a petition, she told the council residents in the Hawthorn and Cutbush Lane areas had concerns at how drivers were treating the residential area.
While the speed limit is 30mph, there is a desire to reduce this to 20mph “predominantly due to the safety of pedestrians and other road users, but also for environmental and community wellbeing reasons too,” Ms Bell said.
Comments from signatories made clear the desire to see a reduction in the limit, with people citing noise reduction, cleaner air, and safer roads as reasons.
Ms Bell said one resident had told her: “I do not feel safe letting my children play in our estate due to the high-speed cars travelling through”.
She then presented the petition to council officers, who will consider it.
The meeting was held on Thursday, March 21.
