A Wokingham restaurant has announced it will close its doors today.
Fare Eatery, located in the courtyard inside Wokingham town hall, opened in June 2024.
In a statement on its social media channels, it said: “The hospitality industry is in crisis, and independent restaurants are struggling to stay afloat.”
It also said the building’s infrastructure has been an “ongoing challenge”, adding “.. the current state of the building .. is simply not fit for purpose.”
The operating company behind the restaurant was also responsible for the previous restaurant, Rynd, at the Grade-II listed building. That business closed in March 2024.
Fare Eatery had achieved a 4.5 rating on review site TripAdvisor.
One diner said the restaurant was “pompous” and “overpriced”, while another said “It’s great to have somewhere different in Wokingham.”
A spokesperson for Wokingham town council told Wokingham Today: “Wokingham town council was sorry to read on social media of the decision by town hall tenant Fare Eatery to pause its operations from December 24, and regret the impact this will have on the restaurant staff and wider community.
“The council recognises the challenging environment that the hospitality industry faces at present, and the cost pressures businesses face.”
The restaurant operator, Truffle Hunting Consultancy, said they hope to reopen the doors next year.
