Councillor Matteo Fumagalli, a Liberal Democrat Wokingham town councillor for the Norreys East ward, has resigned.
He had twice stood for election – in 2020 and 2024 – finishing 3rd of three candidates in 2024 and 7th of 10 in 2020.
A notice on the Wokingham town council website said that pursuant to section 87(2) of the Local Government Act 1972, following the resignation of councillor Matteo Fumagalli a vacancy exists in the office of councillor for the Norreys East ward of Wokingham town council.
“The vacancy will be filled by election if, within fourteen working days of the date of this notice, any ten local government electors for said ward give notice in writing to the Returning Officer, Electoral Services Office, Wokingham Borough Council, Civic Offices, Shute End, Wokingham, RG40 1WH, of a request for an election to fill the vacancy.
“If no such notice is given to the returning officer, the town council will fill the seat by co-option.”
