Two more Wokingham town councillors have resigned – following on from yesterday’s news that Norreys East ward councillor Matteo Fumagalli had also resigned.
Liberal democrat councillors Adrian Betteridge (Evendons West) and Alexandra Fraser (Emmbrook North) have now both resigned from the council.
Cllr Fraser is understood to have moved away, while speaking to Wokingham Today, councillor Betteridge explained: “I am standing down from the town council to allow me to focus on my role on the borough council, particularly the active travel, transport and highways portfolio – a role I took on following the unexpected passing of councillor Paul Fishwick.
“The transport portfolio on the council is of the utmost importance to residents.
“With my borough ward responsibilities in Barkham and Arborfield, this requires my full attention.
“I have been proud to have served as a Wokingham town councillor and will continue to support the town wherever I am able to.”
A statement posted on the Wokingham town council website said: “The vacancies will be filled by election if, within fourteen working days of the date of this notice, any ten local government electors for said wards give notice in writing to the Returning Officer, Electoral Services Office, Wokingham Borough Council, Civic Offices, Shute End, Wokingham, RG40 1WH of a request for an election to fill the vacancy.
“If no such notice is given to the returning officer, the town council will fill the seat by co-option.”
