A drama group has given a fascinating insight into how a future play performance is being created.
Twyford Drama are rehearsing for their production of Entertaining Angels by Richard Everett. This was the play, they say, where Penelope Keith gave an iconic portrayal of the lead character, Grace, in 2006.
Director Frank Kaye says they have a highly talented cast with two actresses new to the group who are very experienced, Sandra Miall playing Grace and Caroline White playing Jo. The other cast members are Beth Reynolds, Jo Davis and Mike Higgins.
“We are having a great time getting our heads around the ins and outs of the script, which is a huge contrast to our recent production of ‘The Mister Misty Mystery’,” said Frank.
“There are entrances and exits galore which enhances the early humour but provides significant shifts of gear as the plot unfolds.
“Each of the characters has their own ‘back story’, which gives the cast much to ponder over as their individual portrayals develop.”
Frank, who is assisted by Viv Williamson, says the cast are now approaching the exciting point where “the cast begin to own the play, their roles developing as they begin to settle into their lines.”
He explains that the set is simple but there are challenges for when two scenes overlay each other. Work is also under way with sound effects, costumes and props.
He added: “All in all, it’s a brilliant play beginning to shape up as a unique production.”
