A supermarket in Twyford is to receive a fresh new look for the new year.
Waitrose, in London Road, will close for five days between February 18 and 23 while new features such as a sushi counter and a new-look wine department are installed.
The store’s coffee shop will now become The Kitchen, where customers will be able to grab a coffee and a cake while enjoying a wider choice of food, including breakfast, lunch and dinner options, freshly prepared throughout the day. Customers will also be given the option to take their food away, or eat in at the new outdoor seating area.
Other new features will include a new look wine department, new meat, fish and bakery counters and a sushi counter where sushi artisans will prepare fresh products in front of customers throughout the day. New customer toilets will also give the store a boost.
The new features will result in the removal of the cheese and deli counters, but the majority of products sold from these counters will still be available in-store.
The changes also mean the supermarket has been able to create five full-time jobs and a number of part-time positions.
Branch manager Steve Peppiatt said: “Like any business we are always looking at how we can improve to ensure we continue to create an exciting and attractive offer as well as making sure we respond to feedback from our Twyford customers.
“New features like the sushi counter and The Kitchen are designed to provide something different which we hope will encourage more shoppers to visit Twyford.
“We believe you should look forward to your supermarket shop and the changes aim to help inspire customers by giving them the opportunity to discover new food and drink alongside their favourites within a fresh, vibrant environment.”
Waitrose Twyford will be open as normal until 6pm on Saturday, February 18. The store will then re-open on Friday, February 24.
- Contrary to rumours on social media, Waitrose Woodley will not be closing. A spokesperson for the supermarket confirmed that the chain had no plans to close the branch in Crockhamwell Road.
