Wokingham Borough Council acted quickly to remove a set of unauthorised traffic lights that were causing traffic chaos on Monday morning (February 19).
The light had appeared on Sandhurst Road near its junction with Finchampstead Road. Traffic was back as far as the junction with Nine Mile Ride, and was made worse by the California crossroads closures, and the separate road closure on The Ridges.
A spokesperson told Wokingham Today: “Those wishing to work on the highways must have a permit.
“If they do not, the council can issue a fine of £500.
“In this instance, the works were linked with a utility company whose permit request had been refused, so temporary lights shouldn’t have been installed.
“Once we were made aware of the issue, it was immediately raised with the company and the lights were removed.”
